Open in new tab We were asked to perform an experiment on wood bugs for this assignment, I suggested that we test which environment wood bugs would prefer, light and dry or dark and moist. As I am looking back and reflecting on this assignment, I believe that I have demonstrated communication skills in many ways. For example, I was able to take on role’s responsibilities in a group and did my share. Specifically, I brought in many different materials for our experiment such as, sticks, dirt, leaves, and rocks to make the environment dark. I was also able to take on role’s responsibilities in a group and do my share, while writing about the experiment. The workload was split somewhat equally between each member of my group, and I was able to complete my portion effectively. I feel I did a good job contributing to this assignment and I was able to work well with my peers to achieve a common goal.
Another way I have demonstrated communication skills throughout this assignment was, by connecting and engaging with my peers. For example, while planning our invention I was an active listener, I supported and encouraged the person speaking. As each of my group members shared their ideas, thoughts and opinions, I was able build off them which eventually lead to our idea being formed. While discussing our plan for the experiment, each of us had very different ideas of how we were going to execute this experiment. However, I was able to see from others points of view and incorporate everyone’s ideas. I think this greatly contributed to our success during this assignment.
I think to further improve my communication skills, I could have reflected on experiences and accomplishments. By doing this, I feel my group and I could have come up with a more well thought out experiment. Although our experiment was very successful, I feel by reflecting on our experiences and accomplishments we could have come up with a deeper thinking question. This is something I would like to improve on in the future, to make my communication skills stronger.
