Hello, and welcome to my blog!  My name is Sophia, and I am just starting my first year of high school as a grade 9 student.  I have many hobbies, but my pesonal favourite is playing soccer.  I first started playing soccer when I was about 9 years old, and I have been playing ever since.  One other thing that I love to do in my spare time, is sing.  I used to do theatre, but I then quit right before starting soccer, and now I sort of have a bit of stage fright.  So, I only ever sing around myself, or people that I really know.  If I had to choose my favourite subject in school, I would probably choose science because, when I get older, I am aiming to be a neurologist because I have always been very interested in learning new things about the human brain.

My Favourite Quote

My favourite quote is “Strive for progress, not Perfection” – anonomous.  This is my favourite quote because, I tend to be sort of a perfectinest a lot of the time, which can have its pros, and its cons.  It is good because a lot of my school projects are usually very neat and have little mistakes.  However, it is also not the best because if I make a mistake on something, like a project or a piece of artwork, I will have to redo the entire thing, which usually takes up time that I could be doing something else more important.  So, I am still learning that making mistakes is part of life, and I shouldn’t always try to be perfect.

My Favourite Video

This is a video about the story of a boy named Rick Hoyt.  In 1940, Rick Hoyt was born, diagnosed as a spastic quadriplegic with Cerebral Palsy. So, he had to stay in a wheelchair all of the time because his brain was not able to communicate properly with his muscles.  However, that did not stop him from achieving his goals.  In the spring of 1977, Rick asked his father if they could run a race together to help inspire a lacrosse player at his school who had recently been paralyzed.  So, even though Rick’s father, Dick, was not a runner, he still stood by his sons side and pushed Rick the whole 5 mile run. This little movement, created the Team Hoyte. After this 5 mile run, Rick said to his father, “Dad, when I’m running, it feels like I’m not handicpped”, and those words, inspired his father, to train everyday for his son, so that they could always run together in marathons. I think both Rick, and his father, Dick, showed both determination, and inspiration because they were both determined to cross each finish line, even though one member was pushing the other in a wheelchair, and they both inspired many people with disabilies, and without disabilities, that you can do anything if you put your mind to it, and that is why I chose this video.

Meaningful Image

http://www.kiwireport.com/50-horrifying-images-environmental-pollution/

I chose this meaningful image of a boat surrounded by thousands of pieces of plastic in the ocean, because, one of the major problems that people are facing all around the world, is pollution.  There are many different types of pollution, including water pollution, which affects people, animals, and the environment around us in so many different ways.  This, as you can imagine, is a huge problem, and it is about time we all start doing something about it.
