A respond to “The Good Place”
Eleanor is my favourite character. She is absolutely a “bad person” but she tells the truth with her soulmate-Chidi and tries to study to be a good person. Moreover, I agree with her point of view. No one is perfect, everyone has a bad side. And there are some people who are not that bad to be in the “bad place”. There must be a “medium place” where normal people can live after death. On the other hand, Tahani is the one that I don’t really like. I’m not saying she is bad but she is too good and it brings me the feeling of unreal. Furthermore, she talks a lot while her soulmate – Monk – does not talk much. So she always speaks for him. It seems to be a good sign but in some cases, she might put words in his mouth and control him. And by talking too much, she is selfish and thinks that she is the center of attention.
There are two dramatic ironies in this episode. The first one is audiences know that Eleanor is a “bad person” and she should not be in the “good place” but the other characters like Michael, Janet or Tahani don’t. The second one Michael says that the system of calculating one person’s good or bad score is perfectly perfect, but they make a big mistake. They bring Eleanor to the wrong place and they don’t know about that, the audiences do.
The main point of this episode that being made about our society is every little thing we did may cause some effects. Throwing trash on the street and think that it’s OK, no one is watching or crossing the red light because there is no camera or police around can be examples of doing bad things. The bad person will have retribution soon. On the other side, picking up trash and put it into the garbage or helping a blind person across the road are examples of doing good things. Good people will have things that they deserve. Or we can say helping each other is a joy. While helping other people, we gain happiness for ourselves.
I really in love with this episode because of its sense of humour and the creative plot. I like when Eleanor tries to say some bad words but she can’t because they have been deflected to “fork” or “bullshirt”. The day after, the “good place” is fermented by the “words” that she has spoken such as an enormous fork is landed in front of her house or Ariana Grand music everywhere because she spelled Chidi’s full name wrong by Ariana Grand designedly. The vocabulary that they use in this episode is not really hard, I can understand them all. There is one little point that I don’t agree with Michael and his team. When he shows the actions that affect our scores goodly or badly, I see that buying a magazine will subtract the score. I think it is unworthy. We need it for entertaining ourselves and it does not ruin or damage anything. I think some points in Michael and his group’s standard in judging a person are too strict and unworthy.
