Assignment 4 – Digital Citizenship

Assignment 3: TOKW

I am interested in pursuing an art degree, and teaching art at a school with a teaching degree. I am passionate about this career because I love art and I love kids. Art is a way for me to express myself easier than through verbal communication. There are so many different aspects of art and how they are interpreted by the viewer and how the artist actually intended for the piece to signify. You can also tell a lot about the artist through their work. For example if they use more vibrant colors they are probably a positive person. I will need to “Get a bachelors degree in education, Pass art and core competency exams, [and] Compile an art portfolio” (Teachers of Tomorrow). The work that this career would entail would definitely be challenging based on what age group of kids you are teaching, as well as it could get very messy depending on what art you are doing. This type of work would also involve “Planning and Delivering Art Lessons, Teaching Various Art Techniques and Styles, Demonstrating and Modeling Art Techniques, Encouraging Creativity and Self-Expression, Assessing Student Progress, Developing and Maintaining a Safe and Organized Art Classroom, Communicating With Parents and Colleagues, [and] Continuing Professional Development” (Career Explorer).

One of the reasons I want to pursue this career-I previously mentioned- is my love for kids. One of the many things that help kids grow is to explore through art, find what they like, put a smile on their face, and get a little messy!! Kids are so pure and for me that makes me so happy if I could put a smile on their face. Like in the photo below you can’t tell me that that little girl wouldn’t put a smile on your face.

Art also gives us the skill not only to be creative but to look at things from different perspectives. Here is a painting I found that really inspired me!!

Lastly, art is also part of all of our cultures!! Especially in History it helps us understand our ancestors.

The progress made to the 94 calls of action is stable. There are only 8 completed and 12 that haven’t even been started, however there are 21 underway. I believe that Canada could be doing much better in the 94 calls of action, and we could be doing it faster as well.

National Truth and Reconciliation Day

On March 9, 2023, the government of British Columbia made September 30th a stat holiday. We made a national holiday to remember the awful stories of what the first nations went through, and what they still go through from generational trauma.
