What I Want to Learn About English

English is one of the most used languages in the world. As a native speaker, I take it for granted. Over the years, I became more and more curious about the language. I wanted to learn how to do certain things with the language. Such as writing proper essays, stories, etc. The language can help express and improve communication between people. It can help with trades, peace treaties, etc. There can be many forms of expressing a persons feelings. Poetry is an example.

This year I would like to learn more about short stories as it is very interesting how such a story can captivate a readers attention. Last year I only touched the surface of those stories. However by touching the surface, I became more interested. I wanted to learn how I can capture the readers attention in a few seconds. How I can create similar story lines to express my thoughts. Essays are something that I would like to improve greatly as well. I only began writing formal essays in grade 8. I want to add more vocabulary to my essays, learn to manipulate words so that it can become even better. English for me was always a huge part of my life. It is part of my identity.

I mostly want to improve my cursive writing because it’s my first time. I usually watch my mom write and wonder how she can write so beautifully. I would also like to expand my vocabulary, to broaden my knowledge. Recently, I have taken a liking to poetry and writing stories. Poetry is so beautiful and it expresses the narrators feelings and thoughts. My goal this year is to be able to learn new vocabulary, to write even better, to learn how to analyze short stories and poetry. I would like to put as much knowledge in my head as possible.

Water Cycle Comic

Reflection:

This assignment showed how I used creative thinking and critical thinking to achieve my goal of creating the water cycle comic.

Critical Thinking:

i used critical thinking when i tried to explain how the process of water going in a cycle worked. I tried to express what i was trying to tell the readers through pictures and words. I hoped if the comic was shown to a child they would understand the process immediately. During the assignment i had to look back at my notes to fully understand how the cycle worked before going on my rough draft. I also had to make sure that the terminology was correct as well. When there was something that i wasn’t sure about i relied on the internet to get the right answer. I searched through a variety of websites to confidentaly write down the answer in the comic.

Creative Thinking:

I showed creative thinking in this assignment by using my creativity to show the cycle. In the comic i made sure to add color to make it more appealling to the eye as well as fine lining the outlines of my drawing in different color. I tried to make the rain drop(Rainy) go through many different paths so people can have the full idea of the entire water cycle. i tried to express my idea through images hoping people would understand. I had some mistakes like misunderstanding the vocabulary and not being able to find the exactly what i was looking for. But in the end i manage to overcome the obstacles.

What I Could Have Done:

If i had more time i would have taken the time to thoroughly add more images and writing to further expand my understanding in my comic.

French Revolution Broadcast

REFLECTION:

This assignment showed how I used creative thinking and communication with my class mates to achieve the broadcast we were looking for.

COMMUNICATION and CREATIVE THINKING

During this assignment I used communication and creative thinking. to explain my ideas, thoughts and opinions in with my group members. By doing so, me and my members created a space where everyone got along and worked smoothly and efficiently. I used communication when helping my group members create many ideas for our script as well as editing. When it was finally time to record our voices for the broadcast we had a few mess ups for example: stuttering, mispronouncing words,laughing. But we had a fun time creating this broadcast even though we made a few mistakes as it happened. Overall, planning and making of the video went well.

WHAT I WOULD DO NEXT TIME:

Something that I wish I could do next time is put more information in the script and make it longer as well because by doing so I think we can make it sound better and more professional. overall, I’m happy with the final result of our French Revolution Broadcast.

REFLECTION:

This assignment showed how I used communication and critical thinking in this assignment.

CRITICAL THINKING:

I used critical thinking in this assignment when I was trying to find something that was safe for the environment yet beneficial to others . I wanted to “invent” something that people would use all the time. My group members and I were trying to find something that people usually complain about that could be fixed. We came up with ideas like a rotatable bench or clothes that never be stained. But, In the end we decided to make a heated jacket for people who didn’t like the cold. We decided to also add solar panels as the main source of heated pads. I thought that the material should be Eco-friendly as well, we then figured out that Fleece( fabric made from recycled plastic bottles) was a type of material perfect for our jacket. As for advertisement, we thought that we should have advertisement on social media like Instagram. then I got the idea to make a poster for people who don’t have social media or technology at all. I helped decide where we should put the heated panels as well as solar panels. Overall, I think the prototype was success.

COMMUNICATION:

I used communication when helping my group members create many ideas for our invention as well as what it should be made of, I communicated with my members on what type of advertisement there should be to represent our jacket. I helped generate ideas as well as adding on to my group members ideas. When we hit a dead end with previous ideas we cooperated to fix mistakes. If that didn’t work we moved on. During the assignment, I helped my members create the poster as well as the jacket. I ask many questions to make sure I was right on everything so I didn’t mess things up .

WHAT WE COULD HAVE DONE BETTER:

If we had more time, I think we should add more pictures of the jacket, for example: someone modelling the jacket for us. I think that might’ve promoted our jacket more so that people might “invest” in it or have more reason too.

Reflection:

This assignment showed how I used communication to get along with my group members. The paragraph below would explain how I did that.

I used communication when explaining to my group members what the hypothesis was or what the independant variable was. I helped generate ideas as well as adding on to my group members ideas. Whe we were wrong I worked with my group members to fix mistakes as well as correcting my own. During the procedure, I helped my members create the circuit required for the lab and helped assign jobs for each catagory in our Sway presentation. I ask multiple questions whenever I was confused or to make sure I was right. I learned to step away from being a leader and let someone else take over. Overall, if I were to resart this whole assignment again, I would make sure to remind myself and others to take pictures during the procedure.

PicLits Poem

Winter Poem Reflection:

This poem shows how I used my Creative Thinking in this assignment. My poem was about how in the winter everyone express their joy openly. I also explain what it looks like in the winter, how the snow covers the ground like a soft white blanket, and how snow looks like fragile crystals when it’s falling down the sky. However, I had some trouble trying to come up with a alliteration sentence that would make sense as well as finding the right picture to show my poetic skills in. As soon as I found the right picture, my mind was filled with so many creative ideas that would fit the picture perfectly that I had to narrow my ideas down to something simple and easy to write about. Fortunatly, those problems were solved quickly and I was able to continue writing.

How I could get better:

I could improve by reading and writing with some more poetry of different kind. That way I can also extend my education of poetry. I could also go on Youtube and search poetry competitions and learn from those videos.

Snowball Campaign Video/Reflection

Reflection:

This video proves that i can use my core competencies to further my group project. In this assignment i used communication to communicate with my group as well as creative thinking to generate ideas for the video.

Communication:

In this assignment, my group and i went through alot of trouble to generate a good idea for our campaign video, slogan, and poster. We had a few arguments saying that one idea is better than the other. However, in the end we sucessfully came up with an idea for the campaign assignment. I am proud to say we worked hard and put alot of effort into the work that we did. We made stronger connections by functioning in certain spaces like when we were making the video or when we were brainstorming as a group. I made stronger conectons hile working with my group memebers, and everyone was very supportive of each other too.

Creative Thinking:

Me and my group developed ideas for our assignment, presentation and slogan. I managed to build upon other group memebers idea or support the idea that appeals to me to make to more improved and better. Even during the video, I added something important that might change the way people see things in our canadiate. I got the experience that i needed to further my education whether it’s from group work or indiviual work. I am happy to say that i will be looking forward to more assignments just like this one.

Ways I Want to Improve:

I want to improve my acting through video assignments to make it more conviencing to people watching the video. I would also like to do add more important quotes when reading the fake magazine. If i could change anything in this assignment i would use a script or plan out a script beforehand instead of improvising from what i know.

Take Your Kid To Work Day (Alternate)

On the first day of school, my head was flooded with different pieces of information about the clubs, WiFi, how the schedule works, classes, digital literacy assignments, etc. You can see how a student could get confused. However after the first few days one could say the school year got better and better. Not only by the people crowding the hallways or the teachers instructing classes but also the fun club fundraisers.

The first two months were spectacular. The clubs that students join were always up for new people, the teachers are filled with fun, the cafeteria food was usually delicious, and the faces of happy people all around. However, I do wish that photo day was not on the very first day of school. Many people didn’t think they looked good enough, and the some girls were worrying about their hair ( speaking from experience ) but the hot dog lunch after made it worth it.

For all the students that are going into high school my advice to you is to just be yourself. Why? because what are you trying to achieve if your pretending to be someone else? Each individual person has a unique personality whether they know it or not. So if you be someone else your throwing away the very piece of you that is special and different from others. If people judge you for it then their jealous that you have something that they don’t. People judge you to make you think your worthless when in reality, they see you as a person that has something they don’t and by judging you and hurting you, they stop that from shining through.

My second piece of advice is to join the clubs. It’s not a command or a demand it’s a request or a suggestion. Tons of clubs are being created, each one with something different that might interest you. Clubs make you connect with people from different age, make you have more fun then in your old schools, and you might get something out of it like maybe money? or pride?

My last piece of advice for you is to have fun. High school is the year when you get to actually have fun for a long time. Joining clubs, making new friends and hosting bake sales are just some of the fun that you could have in Heritage.

Something that i would change in Heritage, is the first day for grade 9. Why? Because on my first day of school i was so confused why there was pieces of paper outside and inside saying something about a advisory. I would highly suggest to send out a email to the parents to show their kids what to check out on the first day. Like which advisory their in, and the who’s teacher they have. It creates a convenient space for the students to understand what is happening around them. It’s a lot of effort but it’s worth it in the end. The building layout is well thought out as well as easy to navigate through, A suggestion to teachers to stick to their promises. What i mean by that is that sometimes a student asks for help from the teacher, who says to meet them at lunch however, they never showed up. If a teacher is going to help a student, they should put their own work aside and help the child understand the lesson. So far all is well in Heritage it’s better then any school I’ve ever been to.

When i grow up i want to be a teacher at dancing or a regular school teacher. i’m passionate about this career because i like to teach young students whether it’s from athletic sports or academics tutoring. Something i think that i would need to pursue this career is to earn a Bachelor’s Degree as well as experience in teaching, high education and many more. Personally i think a skill teachers need to master is the art of patience, Because there are many loud, and aggravating children out in the world

In conclusion, there are many pros about this high school than cons and a An easy-going two month. The homework is quite reasonable too. Remember to just be yourself and have fun while you can.

7 Kingdoms: Thief of Life and Death

Core Competency Reflection:

This is evidence that I build my ideas to make them become better, build on other people’s ideas, and allow others to take the lead.

This assignment proves that I can work well with others. Whenever there was a problem with how we worked things out, we would respectfully resolve the problem even if it means agruing from time to time. This assignment also shows my Creative Thinking. Why? because me and my partner used our creative thinking to create a plot, time and setting as well as the way the characters behave to how the characters speak. Not to mention, considering which period of time we wanted to make the story in. I was able to build on their ideas as well as my own. Not to mention listening to their ideas before weighing the pros and cons of their decision. However, from time to time we argued and didn’t cooperate as well as we hoped but in the end we helped each other out and resolved out arguements respectfully.`

Ways I want to improve…

How I can further my learning for future assignments in English is by expanding my vocabulary so in the future I can make not only my stories more interesting and fluent it can also help with my essay writing as well. I would also like to work with others not only because it’s fun but to learn their ways of learning, and writing to improve my own.
