Digital Literacy 10

Digital Footprint               By Kyle

When I googled my name, not too much came up. At least not too much about myself. However, I did notice my instagram came up (it’s private, though), and a few hockey tournaments I was in. But it mostly wasn’t about me.

How can your digital footprint affect future opportunities?

Your digital footprint can make a large impact on your future. If your footprint is positive, it can allow companies to hire you, as they might be impressed on what they see. However, it can also leave a negative impact on your future. It is likely you will not be hired for something if your digital footprint is unflattering.

What are some strategies to keep a good digital footprint?

In my opinion, you should always think before posting something on the internet, as it could easily have effect on your future. Think: Is this positive? Would it leave a good impression? Why am I posting this? If it is for something important, like for school, it would be okay to post something as long as it’s nothing goofy.

What info I would like to pass on to others?

Always be safe on the internet and make sure you know what you are doing, or it can lead to trouble.

Conclusion:

Make sure you always think before posting something on the internet. It can leave a lasting impact on you for years to come. It could be a good impact, or a bad impact. Just make sure it would leave a good impact on you: maybe you can get a great job in the future!

Infographic Assignment:

Describe in detail THREE possible search tools to narrow the focus of your searches.

-To find the source of a quote or phrase, put the search in quotation marks to narrow it down.

-To exclude a word from search results, put a “-” sign in front of the word you don’t want to come up after you click search.

-To do a reverse image search copy the image url of the image. Then press the camera button and paste it into there. Images that are similar will appear.

Perform a search on a topic of your choice

Perform it in an incorrect manner and then use one of the techniques to narrow your search – talk about the number of search results for each search and how this would help in your research – provide screen shots for evidence..

-First I just simply searched “hockey”, then I searched “hockey -bruins”, which really changed the results. It did so because Boston is in the finals right now and most of the results before were about the finals.

Pick one of the sites that came up in your search and create a proper citation for that site.

Hockey News. “The Hockey News’ People of Power and Influence: No 85 – Roland Lee.” TheHockeyNews, 30 May 2019, thehockeynews.com/news/article/the-hockey-news-people-of-power-and-influence-no-85-roland-lee.

Explain how you know a site is providing reliable information – what clues do you look for?

-If it seems bias or anything like that, it’s best not to trust the information. Also, it’s best to see who the author is, and where they are getting their information from. It is also good to see if other articles contain the same info.

What is a personal learning network – watch the following video and describe in your own words what a PLN is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLLpWqp-owo

-The PLN is the Organization, or group of people that you use to learn new things. You don’t necessarily know them personally. They can be a website. There are many ways to connect with them like Youtube, Twitter, etc.

Watch the following video – complete either 2A. or 2B as a response on your infographic – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XfGnpf9qzs

2A. What does your personal learning network look like? Describe services/apps/or people(networks) that you currently use to learn.

I go to school which helps. And I learn off of youtube, instagram, and my parents.

2B. If you have not started a personal learning network describe the things would you need to do to start a personal learning network.

Contact lots of people that can help.

You did not receive a passing mark on your Digital Footprint assignment. Please make improvements and re-submit the links via email. Here is your evaluation:
You should have six related images in your post, with links to your sources. The answers you have given don’t go into enough detail. Please elaborate more on your points.
