Hi, my name is Nico and I am a grade 9 student in Port Moody, B.C. I have been playing soccer for over 10 years and enjoy track and field as well. Although I like to play sports, I love food more than anything, especially, Indian and Italian cuisine. I have an older sister who attends Herritage Woods Secondary School, two parents and two labradoodle puppies. This year I am a freshman at Heritage Woods Secondary School and looking forward to an exciting high school experience. I am eager to part take in multiple sporting events and meet lifelong friends along the way. Not to mention, electives such as foods and business tech spike my interest and hopefully I land a spot in those classes. Lastly, My goal in the future is to either become a track or soccer star, potentially a business tycoon as well.
Outside of school, I have an eventful life. Between soccer practices,Track practices and homework, I enjoy walking my dark-chocolate, coloured dogs along Bert Flynn Park. The crisp, autumn weather makes me feel refreshed whenever I get the chance to walk them. Another hobby of mine is playing the video game, Fortnite. Fortnite is a battle Royale styled game where you aim to be the last person or team left in the game. Each match there are 100 players. Eating food is also a hobby of mine. Although most people may not consider eating a hobby, delicious meals reimburse my stomach with joy. Mouth-wattering spaghetti bolognese, glazed barbecue ribs and steamy chicken fajitas are some of my favourite dishes. When I have an escape from homework and sports, these are a few unique hobbies of mine I love to do. Finally, hanging out with my friends is my favourite hobby by far. Whether we decide to stir up a fun adventure or lounge on the couch, laughter is always in the air.
All in all, I hope you enjoyed this brief description of my life and the activities surrounding it. I am enjoying the transition to high school because I have connected with many students and am actively growing my friend circle. If there is only one aspect of my personality that you must know it is that I love to laugh and have fun.
“If you can’t outplay them, outwork them.” – Ben Hogan
This particular quote has impacted me positively by creating the proper mindset to outwork competitors on the soccer pitch. In October of 2017, I severely bruised a ligament in my pelvis and have been unable sprint pain free since the injury. Although a rigid rehab plan had slowly improved the damage, my mentality was crushed by the repetitive, daily exercises and the constant reminder that I could not play soccer. My Father could see I was struggling with the process and attempted to show me a list of inspirational quotes to keep me spark my mindset with positive ideas. Immediately one stood out to me, “If you can’t outplay them, outwork them” – Ben Hogan. This quote impacted me positively because I was unable to outplay my competitors because of my injury but I am capable of outworking all of them. I increased the cardio in my rehab plan so I will have better stamina than my competitors. I expanded the amount of strengthening exercises to ensure that my balance, stability and speed is better than prior to my injury. Overall I am truly thankful that I discovered this quote to help steer me onto the correct recovery path.
Soccer Express is my favourite website because they have the widest inventory of soccer gear in Canada. The latest cleats and accessories in the world of soccer are sold on their site so I often browse their shoe selection to stay up to date. Soccer express has expensive prices for their retail items because some cleats in their inventory are only sold in their stores. I typically browse the site instead of purchasing any items because of their high prices, however, my friends buy most of the gear from Soccer Express. Soccer Express is the leader in soccer apparel and has a well-organized website.
This is my favourite video because the constant crowd reaction to the goalkeeper being kicked in the face in hilarious. The announcers add a detailed commentary to the skit that enhances the amusement to each time the goalkeeper is pounded in the face. I love how the ball always manages to miss the goal and destroy “Scott Sterling’s'” face even though he is completely out of position. All in all, this viral skit is not explicit so I highly recommend viewing it.
This is my favourite image because it is inspiring and presents a positive message to everyone. It encourages the youth to stand up for their beliefs and follow a path we wish to pursue. This image inspired me to continually work my hardest at School and with rehab because some people are not given the chance to showcase their talents. I hope Colin Kaepernick is offered a Quarterback position soon because he was the 3rd best quarterback in the league in 2016 and is currently not playing.
