In this earth science project I got to demonstrate a water molecule’s journey through the water cycle by creating a comic.
The core competency I demonstrate in this project is creative thinking. Here is evidence that I can generate new ideas and build upon my ideas: When I started creating the comic I wanted it to be informational but digestible, so that even a child could understand this comic. When creating the character to represent a water molecule I had many ideas, but since this was something I wanted to be simple and fun I had to polish up my work and narrow it down to the style shown above. I was also able to build ideas through experimentation. I wrote out my block of sentences for each slide and then sketched out a few drawings to convey that idea. Like the character design I then picked the best from my options (or even combined some of my ideas) so that the personification of the water molecule parodied a real life water molecule. By having multiple ideas and narrowing them down I can make my ideas more creative and suitable for the project.
One of the ways I want to improve is by taking more risks in how I showcase my information. If I use more ideas that are more unique or “out there” I have more potential to make more connections with the reader or possibly make some ideas clearer. I can take steps towards this by adding more of these unique ideas to my sketch paper where I brainstorm ideas.
