PicLit Poem

In this mini-assignment I got to create a poem based off of a photo of my choice found on the PicLit website.  I got to use literary devices in it such as alliteration, personification, similes, and metaphors.  The poem I did was about the ocean and how it can both be terrorizing and beautiful.  I found that my greatest strength in this was rhyming and using literary devices to express my feelings about the picture.  Next time I want to improve on my ability to use PicLits as it was very difficult and confusing for me at first.  Since this was my first PicLit I had some technical difficulties, but I was able to think through my problems with it and come up with solutions.  In this project I used the core competency of creative thinking  in figuring out ways that I could rhyme words, make them poetic, and make them descriptive.

In this assignment I worked towards using my communication skills.  While working on the project I needed to decide with my group what would persuade our audience into voting for Napoleon in our class election.  This involved us discussing and agreeing on which propaganda techniques that we would use to better push the election in our favour.  There were multiple different ideas and opinions on how we could best present our views, so we talked it through and merged the best parts of each of our ideas in order to come up with our strategy.  My biggest strength in the project was taking leadership more in the group, it was easier in this group than others because I was with people who I was more comfortable with.  Next time I want to budget my time better and take more work home so that I can polish it.

In this assignment I think I was able to work on and improve my creative thinking skills.  While doing this I had to come up with an original storyline that fit the criteria, so I ended up doing a lot of brainstorming and rewriting.  My biggest strength was time management, I worked by myself on the project and new that because of this I’d have to budget with a lot more work load.  In writing the story my biggest strength was using descriptive words so that the reader could get a better idea of the story’s tone.  Next time I want to improve on my presentation skills, as I struggle with speaking confidently when in front of a class, I also need to use better pacing, but overall I am content with the end product.
