Rwanda Presentation Reflection

On November 13, two presenters talked about their experiences with the genocide in Rwanda. One of the presenter’s Tutsi family were killed in the genocide, and instead of going into detail of what happened during the genocide, like expected, the presentation took a turn. Instead, the presenter explained how she was able to forgive the Hutu that killed her family. Positive personal and cultural identity competencies which include the ability to forgive someone who possibly killed your whole family, blew me away. The two would later share how they added to the help of getting Rwanda out of its extreme poverty by building schools and libraries for children. After this presentation it taught me to be personally responsible and aware. Similar to the presenter sharing her experience with forgiving the people who killed her family, I must be responsible in these situations, even though it can be tough to do so. Another thing I learned from this lesson is, I must do my part and be aware of when I can contribute. This presentation opened my eyes to different ways I can prove myself and the world around me.
