Text and Subtext Video

Core Competencies Reflection:

During the Texting Story project, I think that I demonstrated the Creative Thinking Core Competency well. I showed that I can make my ideas work or change what I am doing, I can usually make my ideas work within the constraints of a given form, problem and materials if I keep playing with them, and I build the skills I need to make my ideas work, and usually succeed, even if it takes a few tries. When I changed the main character’s name to something that fitted the role better, I demonstrated that I can make my ideas work or change what I am doing. I showed how well I can make my ideas work within the constraints of the given form when I would change the text to subtext to give my characters depth. I built the skills I needed to make my ideas work by learning how to operate the texting story app before I made my video. By doing that, I ensured that my video was exactly the way I wanted it to be without any problems occurring along the way.

In addition, I can also use my experiences to direct my future work. As I was writing the script for my texting story, I my thought about my past writing experiences so that I could learn from my mistakes and improve my script. I can also get ideas when I use my senses to explore. Listening to music helps me be more creative, so while I was writing the script I listened to music that wouldn’t distract me from my project, but inspired me. Finally, I create ideas that are new to my peers. I strive to write stories that are unique so that people find them interesting. That’s how I creative thinking when I changed the writing prompt so my texting story would be unique. The original four things I got as a prompt were a scientist, aerobics, a secret diary, and an unpleasant creature under the bed. I ended up only using the secret diary so that my story would be even more unique than everyone else’s.

Even though I believe that I demonstrated Creative Thinking well, I think that I can improve my creative thinking skills by getting new ideas or building on other people’s ideas to create new things. I chose this to work on because I know that I have a hard time accepting criticism from other people. I can do this by asking for help more from people whose opinions I trust. I know that if I can learn to accept criticism, my writing can improve and so will my creative thinking.
