Text and Subtext Video

For this assignment, we were asked to use an app on our phones to make a fake texting conversation that is related to our short story.  Throughout this video, I have demonstrated critical thinking in many ways.  For example, I have shown critical thinking by monitoring my progress and adjust my actions to make sure I achieve what I want, I can make choices that will help me create my intended impact on an audience or situation and I can experiment with different ways of doing things.  I have shown critical thinking by monitoring my progress and adjusting my actions through trial and error.  For example, I wanted to show that Laura did not want to text Annika by texting her short and dry answers.  Throughout the process, I had to redo it multiple times because I didn’t want it to be super obvious.

Another critical thinking skill I have shown throughout this story is by making choices that will help me create my intended impact on an audience or situation.  In my text story, I wanted to show that Laura was not interested in hanging out.  I showed this by giving dry answers and making excuses up.  This is a good skill to have because while writing stories like this, you want to be able to show the character’s feelings without directly saying it.  The last critical thinking skill I have shown is experimenting with different ways of doing things.  For example, I wanted an effective story that moves the story on but isn’t too long.  I successfully completed this by trial and error.  I wrote different text stories and merged them to get a text story that represents it well.

Overall, I think I did pretty well on this assignment.  I took the time to find the right word choices and replies.  Something that I think I should work on is analyzing things from different perspectives.  I think this is a good skill to have because when making a text story you as the writer already know how the story goes and how the characters act.  So when someone else reads your story who doesn’t know how the story goes or how the characters act, it confuses them.  I can achieve this by asking my peers to read the text story without reading my story to see how I can adjust it so they get a better understanding of how the characters act.
