The core competency that I have chosen is Communication because during our project we had to communicate a lot to understand what we were going to do and what we needed to bring. The first point that I chose from Communication is “I ask and respond to simple questions”. In my group we talked and asked each other a lot of questions and we did our best to answer them. An example of this is when Sara was confused on what to write in the lab, like the hypothesis, and Emma and I helped her understand what to do and what a hypothesis was. We also asked and built off of each other questions when we were doing the lab itself and when we were trying to gather the data to make the graph and chart, this helped with the process of the lab quite a lot. During the lab we constantly asked each other questions and we also asked Ms. Prosperi-Porta many questions as well to make sure we knew how to execute the lab.
The second point that I chose from communications is “I can work with others to achieve a common goal; I do my share”. In my group Me, Sara, Bella, and Emma all made sure to do our share of the work and in our final draft/project we all had our own parts to finish in time to hand in, plus we had the work that we did together as well. In the end the project was finished successfully, on time and followed all the guidelines, and we all achieved our common goal as well. In the experiment we also all had our own parts, Sara made sure the Wood bugs didn’t escape during the experiment and set them up too, Bella was the timer and I recorded the times for the data and Emma worked on the habitat page for the lab. Overall, we were all able to work together to achieve our common goal, finished the project successfully and on time and we all did our share of work.
During the project we could have improved on many things. Some of those things was making sure we stay on task the whole time we had to work on it, organizing everything before the project due date is coming up, and making sure that we paid attention to all the data and that we used it correctly. As a group we were very distracted in places, we could go from talking to Wood bugs to what we were doing the night before and honestly could have been more focused. We accidentally forgot to bring all the supplies we needed for the first day we could have worked on the experiment, it was ok because we just did the experiment the next day but it would have given us more time to write up the lab, which would have been nice. Another aspect I would have liked to improve was that the first time round we forgot to record all of the necessary data that we needed for the experiment and and we had to do the experiment a few times again to get all the data. The lab itself ran pretty smoothly and didn’t have many hiccups.
