-I get ideas when I play. My ideas are fun for me and make me happy.
When I first heard that short stories are going to be a subject, I was excited. I love exploring my own world inside my imagination, and I can finally write it all down as a story. Personally, I like a series of stories and fictional creatures called SCPS. All the way back to grade 7 I was interested, and now I can play around with the universe(s) of SCP and make my own stories/ideas. I’ve always wanted to make a story about an SCP, let alone making anything SCP related and handing it in to a teacher. I chose to write about SCP 001. SCP 001 is a phenomenon when exposure to sunlight turns people into zombie-like slush. When I played around with this idea and some text from the actual story, I came up with my own story about SCP 001. In the end, writing about something I like is a pleasant experience, and I really enjoyed writing this story.

As explained earlier, I explored the universe of SCPs. SCP 001 is an already written story, and I used some of the plots in the story, changed it up and made my own version of the story. Unlike the story on the website however, I’ve tweaked the setting of the story, a plot, and made the ending have a purpose, which is punishing the character’s humanity, curiously looking at files instead of leaving the area immediately. In the end, he dies for sticking around, all because of his curiosity. To add, the high-level English used on the website helped me form a better story as Mr. Smith taught us to copy sentences but re-write them in our own words, but the sentence structure would remain the same.
-I make my ideas work or I change what I am doing.
I went through 2 iterations of this story. The first version of the story had some awkward dialogue and the plot went nowhere, so I decided to re-write the story. The second version was based more on the actual story on the website, but it came too close to the original. So, I changed up the plot, changed the setting, added more meaning to the story and made a backstory for the character, to give him some humanity, and to make the reader feel somewhat connected to the character.
-I give, receive, and act on feedback.
Today, we got to peer edit our stories and I received some valuable feedback which would help me improve my story. I acted on that feedback and made changes to my story to improve the quality of it. Not only that, I gave out some feedback to those I’ve peer edited, and generally improved the quality of all our stories.
Things I can work on:
-I build on others’ ideas and add new ideas of my own.
Even if I’ve changed up the whole plot and setting of the story and more, I still feel like I could’ve made an original story. Possibly in the future, I can create a whole new SCP itself, and make a story around that. Not only would I enjoy the process of writing the story, I would also enjoy making the SCP which would be in my story. To correct and prevent this, I can once again explore my imagination and try to come up with a new and original idea in the same field of things I like, such as special forces, SCP, games, etc. and write about that instead.
