Peanut Butter Power

SHAZOOM POSTER AND SWAY

Introduction

Recently, we have been learning about the Industrial Revolution. We have been told that technological progress doesn’t happen automatically; it is the result of hard work, and critical and creative thinking. This project was about coming up with a new product that is original. The purpose of this was to work together as a group and use of creative thinking. Although the product we came up with was not very realistic, we were told that it could be fictional because creativity and selling was the main motive. The one criteria we had to meet was the “triple bottom line” (economic, ethical, environmentally friendly). This invention project was related to the Industrial revolution because during the industrial revolution, many people came up with new inventions that improved everyone’s lifestyle and helped the creators gain money. Below, I have embedded the sway we created. The sway explains our invention thoroughly.

Four  Bullet Points I Used

A core competency I used throughout this project was communication.

The first bullet point that I selected is; “I ask and respond to simple, direct questions”

For example; when we were brainstorming what inventions to create, they all asked me what my opinion was and I responded to their simple, direct questions. I also asked my group members questions when I did not understand or when I need their opinions.

The second bullet point that I selected is; “I am an active listener; I support the person speaking”

I have demonstrated this when we were advertising our product. Instead of yelling over each other, I let my teammates speak and said what needed to say after they finish what they are saying.

The third bullet point that I selected is; “I recognize that there are different point-of-views and I can disagree respectfully ”

I have recognized this when we were designing and brainstorming. When we were designing, we all had different perspectives. To give an example; some of us wanted to make an app, or fridge while others preferred a small lunch bag sized food maker. In the end we all accepted that the lunch bag one was the easiest to sell and make.

The fourth bullet point that I selected is; “I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group”

During the period of time that we had at school, we all decided on roles and responsibilities we would take as a group. To be more specific, I chose the role of writing half the write up and some other minor jobs. I did complete half the write up and helped with the headlines, images and sway as well.

Two Bullet Points I Need to Work On

The first bullet point I need to work on is ; “I can present information and ideas to an audience I may not know”

I can present information to unknown audiences but throughout the block we were presenting, lots of people gave us weird faces and told us our idea wouldn’t work. The impact of their impressions affected our performance a little and I think I should work on that.

The second bullet point I need to work in is; “I can understand and share information about a topic that is important to me”

This bullet point is very similar to the first one but slightly different. I can understand the topic and it is very important to me but sharing the information and making the buyer look at our product from our point of view was very challenging. This is an area I definitely need to work on.

Reflection

Overall, as a group we did very well showcasing our invention. We also experienced how to influencers felt back in the 1700s. It was challenging to put together a creation for sure, especially  in such a short time but we got the gist of it. All in all, this project was exciting and certainly an adventure.
