About Me

INRODUCTION ABOUT MYSELF

Hi! My name is Lan Anh. I’m from Vietnam and I’m a grade-11 international student at Heritage Woods Secondary School. I extremely enjoy my new experience when study in a Canadian school. I have worked so hard to go study abroad. My greatest dream is to graduate High School, go to University in Canada then have a good job that allows me to become a guarantee for my family coming to Canada. With me, the most important thing in the world is my family that nobody can replace it. My family has 5 members. They are my parents, my 2 younger brothers and me.  One of my biggest passion is traveling. I’ve been to Europe, USA, Korea, Japan, Singapore many cities in Vietnam. I always can learn new things from other countries such as culture, languages, lifestyle, etc. Traveling as my gift I reward myself and all my efforts. I interested in cooking because I like the feeling people praise me for my dishes. I love Vietnamese food and I always try to make different Vietnamese food in Canada for me and my host family so they can know how excellent is Vietnamese food as well as helping me less homesick. I also like learning new things and improve myself to be better. That is the reason why I want to learn German and French. In my free time, I like to hang out with my friends or try to cook something new. I love US-UK pop songs and some K-Pop songs. Do you want to know a little fun fact about me? That is I’m just a girl and seemed feeble but I’m extremely ambitious. Some people are surprised about that and even recommend me not to try so hard like a man 🙂

WHY THIS IS MY FAVORITE QUOTE ?

What is happiness? I’m pretty sure that hardly people can answer it immediately. My answer is right in my favorite quote! I really like it because it changes my mind as well as my action. As I mentioned, I’m an extremely ambitious girl. That why I always set a high achievement for myself to do it. When I can’t achieve it, I feel very disappointed about myself even everybody else say it is okay because it just too hard for a little girl to do it. Sometimes my parents said to me that ” Try your best is very good but don’t let it be a burden of yourself. It won’t make you happy” I used to think that as long as I have a lot of money, I can have a happy life. But I was wrong. Maybe money can buy something makes us happy, but money can’t buy happiness because nobody sells happiness. With me, happiness is when we have family, have a normal body, when we have a good mark or someone comes home after a long time no see. Happiness is not just a smile but also tears. Those were tears bursting in joy of the mother when she saw her baby born healthy after 9 months 10 days or tears of parents when they saw their daughter came back home after study abroad for 1 year. For many people, happiness begins with the simplest thing, when waking up early and find a purpose to live for today. However, fully happiness needs a foundation. That can be money, family or relationship. But these factors just make us happier when we have at least something that makes us don’t feel unconfident or stressful. So this is my definition of happiness!

WHY THIS IS MY FAVORITE YOUTUBE CLIP ?

Little note: This video has cute English subtitles so don’t worry if you don’t understand! Have fun!

Maybe when you read the title of this video, you can understand why this is my favorite video on YouTube. Because this video is about my home country – Vietnam! I’m so proud of Vietnam. This video is about the journey of Khoai Lang Thang go around Vietnam in 800 days. It talks about Vietnamese life in the West of Vietnam, the hospitality of Western people and their amazing cuisine. Why Khoai Lang Thang chooses the Western region but not South or North of Vietnam which are more famous? Because that is where Khoai Lang Thang was born and he wants to tell everyone in the world the extraordinary beauty of the Western region. He is a role model for young people’s worries about their own lives. He used to be like some young people – worked that not his passion but only for money. He started wondering he has fulfilled how many dream youth has nourished and how many his passions are still left behind. Then he realized he loved traveling, making video and money didn’t make him happy. So he gave up his old job and started to be a YouTuber. I love this video the most because it not only makes me feel proud of Vietnam but also has a lot of quotes about life, youth, happiness, etc that are extremely true. When I watched this video it made me a little regret because even this is Vietnam – my home country but I have never been to this place. It also reminds me of my 16-wonderful-year life when I was in Vietnam with my family and friends.

WHY THIS IS MY FAVORITE WEBSITE?

Youtube

This is my favorite website! I think everyone knows YouTube and its usefulness. This is one of the biggest websites in the world! They have everything: Video about life, health, history, movies, beauty, etc. I like YouTube because I can learn everything from here as well as for entertainment purpose. I found that learning English on YouTube is very effective. I improved my English so quickly. I know how to pronounce correctly, write a formal document, slang words, etc. I also learn more about life to make my life easier such as learn some small tricks in conversation so it can last longer or know how to distinguish the authentic product and the fake product. Thanks to YouTube I can learn more about Canada when I was in Vietnam so I’m not culture shock.

WHY THIS PICTURE HAS IMPACTED ME?

“Baby Napalm “ by Nick Ut

This picture touched my heart so much and made me cry so hard. Because this is a picture of the Vietnamese war which is a scar of every generation. This is the photo “Baby Napalm ” by Nick Ut who is the photographer AP is symbolic of the devastation of the war and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1973. In the photo, Ms. Phan Thi Kim Phuc was running and crying when the American bombard napalm to Trang Bang, Tay Ninh in 1972. The heat of the bombs made her no longer pieces of clothing and serious back, hands burnt. The protagonist of Nick Ut’s memorable picture later met the author of the photo. Now she is living with her family in Canada. I feel so pleased for her when after a tough childhood finally she has a better life. This photo denounces the crimes of war that have killed many people, made families separated and took away many children’s childhood. Whenever I look at this photo I always feel sad and angry about the consequence of the war. However, I also feel grateful to the previous generation had sacrificed so much for the future of the next generation.
