Animal Farm Video Reflection

The core competency I reflected on and used most in this unit was Critical Thinking. I believe that Critical Thinking was a large part of this unit, as we had to use it in many situations to protect, describe, detail, and create our ideas for the campaign.

I started my work off by analyzing quotes and characteristics for not only my animal (Clover) but studied different animals in order to create propaganda to benefit us. I critiqued evidence I found during my research to understand if it was beneficiary to our campaign. I would analyze evidence from different perspectives during our video creation by finding different was to include key information and characteristics not only about Clover, but about the other animals as well. My main job was video making, so I put more effort into that area than others. I have shown that I can analyze my own assumptions and beliefs and consider views that do not fit with them when adding scenes to the video. I critically thought about how to visually display the information we learned through reading animal farm in ways that it would be easier for our audience to comprehend. I was able to show if I liked something or not when I went over the video. I was able to depict unnecessary scenes and clips that didn’t benefit the campaign.

Another core competency I used this unit was question and investigate. I was able to question my classmates campaign presentation for extra information on what they had to offer and if I should vote for them. I was able to investigate my peers campaign promises and ideas to figure out if they were propaganda or if they were the truth or not. I have shown that I can explore materials and actions when I helped touch up our poster. I was able to explore any areas that we could improve on considering our poster. I have shown that I can consider more than one way to proceed in an investigation when I added more than two reasons why our audience should have voted for clover. Not only the propaganda about the opposing animals, but also reasons why Clover was best suited to lead Animal Farm. I evaluated the credibility of sources of information during the research phase. I checked to see if negative characteristics of opposing animals was revealed more than once, to know whether or not me and my group should capitalize on their errors.

A core competency I believe I could have Improved on was Develop and Design. Being the main video creator, I believe that I should have focused more on the video than other jobs as well, it is good to be involved, but not when my focus leaves my main priority. I could have improved on making choices that will help me create my intended impact on an audience or situation. When making the video, I should have spent more time touching up little errors such as poor audio, or especially music. After watching my peers’ videos, I realized that adding music would much greater impact the audience and get the point across. I could have improved on experimenting with a different way of doing things. When making the video, I believe little things like sound effects could have been more appealing towards my audience. My main issue this unit was video work, if I had spent more time editing and making the video seem less boring, I believe that I would have had a greater impact on the audience, which was my goal from the beginning.

    You have integrated media into your blog. Information clearly relates to a core competency. You include some supporting details and/or examples of how you demonstrated the competency.
    Reflection has some organization and uses 3 paragraphs which do a satisfactory job of communicating. Your paragraphs use some of the language of the core competency to describe how you demonstrated the core competency and how you might apply it in the future.
