Core Competencies Reflection:

Communication:

Cooperatively, what I believe was one of the main factors that helped us succeed in experimenting with the wood bug’s characteristics. was communication. We collaborated to plan, carry out, and review constructions and activities during our first initial brainstorm. We made sure that everyone was on the same page and we made clear what our roles were. Specifically on the written piece of the experiment, where we had to record our data and put it into words that were easier to understand. My role was to write the conclusion and habitat page. I believe that I finished my job out proficiently, and even cited my sources. I connected and engaged with others during the actual experiment. Communicating with my group was a key part of our success. Understanding when to adapt and make the food look more presentable for the wood bugs was just one way that we demonstrated this. (tearing ham into small pieces to look more appetizing)

Critical Thinking:

The wood bug experiment involved a lot of critical thinking in my opinion. Being able to properly analyze and distribute different pieces of information is an important skill to have. I analyzed and critiqued the research that I did for the wood bug habitat. I took different steps to ensure that my sources and information were reliable and credible, I also had to understand which kinds of information on the wood bug is relevant to our experiment. I included various characteristics and living preferences of the wood bugs, to create a simpler understanding of the experiment as a whole. My group and I developed and designed during our experiment. We had to create a habitat similar to that of a wood bug’s in a small plastic tray with materials such as sticks and grass. We did this so that the wood bugs wood feel a sense of comfort and tranquillity when having new and interesting foods presented to them.

What we could have improved on:

I believe that we could have improved our cooperativity towards the end of the experiment. After changing between foods for the wood bugs, we had a bit of disagreement about which direction we should take the experiment in next. Some wanted to change the environment in one way, others wanted it to stay the same. This may have reduced our productivity a little bit, but we stuck together and completed the task.
