In this project, we were to research and organize information on the species we chose from a list. Through this, we would reach our objectives of deepening our understanding of the importance behind interconnectedness and to compare traditional practices of the First Peoples of BC to current species use and sustainability. This task required a lot of critical thinking skills in order to complete it.

I was able to demonstrate critical thinking in my project in a few ways, and one of them was using analysis and evaluation. Analysis is, in many scenarios, very important. In this project, I used analysis to determine the credibility of sources, rejecting those that are known to be not credible, unreliable, or those that may be reliable, but are simply too subject to change (e.g. Wikipedia). Knowing that media by organizations owned, funded, or ran by the Canadian or American government or information by international organizations that have ties to the United Nations are reliable, we mostly used those as they were unbiased, factual, and are not subject to change. In addition to the sources we know are reliable, we used a few other sources to obtain information that we otherwise wouldn’t have able obtain and looked them up. Eventually we finished with six references (excluding three for images).

In the design space of critical thinking, I decided to opt for an essay-like design with textbook-like elements. I chose this format because I was confident in my ability to write an essay, and since we were not going to present this, there was no reason to organize it into a PowerPoint. Unfortunately, I only realised after finishing it nearing the date it was due that some images were probably unneeded. If I were to go back and redo the assignment, I would have probably removed a few images and replace two with more detailed ones. Next time, I would also want to include more of the First Peoples of BC part of the assignment as I think that there was not a lot of information of traditional uses. However, as mistakes are made, improvements are made in the future.
