The American Revolution was a colonial revolt that started as a result of taxation by the British without including representation of the Thirteen Colonies’ in the British Parliament. From the beginning of the revolt with the passing and enactment of the Stamp Act in 1765, tension between the colonies and the government in London only grew from there as war breaks out between the colonists and the British Empire later in 1775. For my creative project, I chose to draw two posters that spread “disinformation” about the British government in England and encourage patriotism. The first poster (left) is encouraging people to abstain from purchasing the seemingly cheap tea that was taxed by the Tea Act and to dump the tea by the East India Company overboard to send the message to Britain that they do not and will not tolerate “taxation without representation”. The second poster (right) encourages people to fight for their freedom and join the Thirteen Colonies’ militia that was back then called the “Continental Army” over standing idly by and risk the British Empire successfully suppressing the rebellion.
Reflecting on this project, I think that I have done well in most of the project (besides missing the due date). I had chosen what I could do to the best of my ability, and used my creative thinking core competency to outline what I was going to put on my two propaganda posters. Incorporating some elements of critical thinking, I had questioned what is the “most convincing” font in most situations, and incorporated that font to the posters to the best of my ability. However, more problems arose when I was drawing the British flag, doing my best to draw it proportionally accurate and look like the British flag as much as possible …until I remembered that I was drawing the flag of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and not of the British Empire (which has different proportions). Rather than restarting since I had already coloured most of it in, I decided to just erase the parts that haven’t been coloured in (most notably St. Patrick’s Saltire). There weren’t many other problems other than incorrect proportions on the flag of the British Empire (except the time needed to draw about 25 letters or so in very fancy font). Despite all those challenges, I managed to pull through and complete this project with problem solving skills from my creative thinking skills. If I were to give myself a letter grade, I would give it a C+ or B.
