Personal Awareness and Responsibility

For this assignment I had to create an invention. To this I had to work with my peers and eventually came up with the SS guard. I had to be able to recognize my friend’s emotions so that there were not any problems when we were working together via online. When we were making the product, we came across some problems with our ideas, so I had to make sure I took ownership over my behavior and thoughts. I had to make sure I was not putting anybody’s ideas down because all out ideas were equal. I had to persevere with the challenging tasks that faced me with picking the idea. Our original idea did not work out, so we had to make sure we chose the right one the second time. There were so many to chose and it felt like we were not going to be able to chose one. We worked through this eventually even though it took a long time. This resulted in our SS guard, the sharpening skate guard!

I also had to take some responsibility for my emotional well being during this project. Since we are doing it online it was my responsibility to hand it in on time and do the work before the night it was due. If I did it the night before it was due, I would have raised my stress levels. However, since I did not do that, I made the better choice that benefited my well being. This let me stay calm and organized. When things were getting stressful, I was able to talk to my group members to work it out. Or I would take a break and work on something else. This let me sustain my healthy lifestyle even though its so different from what I am used to.

Ways I want to improve are…

Something I could improve are my abilities to stay self determined during these times. Even though I would consider myself to already preform well at this I can always improve. During this project I was working with other people and made sure to share my enthusiasm about their work. However, I still need to remember to do this with my own work and not always say its “not that good”, when I know its good. However, I need to remember not to brag or be too self centered. With this invention project we had to come up with an invention that would be useful. Even though its useful, there are somethings that this world needs more that an upgraded skate guard. I can still improve on imagining and working toward change in the real world and not just our school bubble. With more research we could have come up with something that would have been more useful to more people. This would mean that I can work on taking initiative to inform myself about controversial issues.
