Hockey
Although I am a multi-sport athlete and do numerous extracurricular activities by far one of my favorites would be hockey. I enjoy hockey because it not only provides me with good exercise but I also become very close with my teammates. For example, my first year of hockey was when I was in grade 7, I remember showing up to tryouts not knowing anyone and being extremely nervous. Throughout the first couple of weeks of the season, I had gotten to know my teammates better and learned one of them went to my school. Since then we have played two and a half seasons together and I am happy to call her one of my best friends! It’s crazy to think I didn’t even know she existed during grade 6 and it wasn’t until we became teammates that I found an amazing friend.
Before hockey, I played ringette which was what got me into ice sports. It was there when I discovered the goaltender position. Unlike the other kids who wanted to score goals, I found I liked stopping the shots. Because I started ringette when I was 9 everyone had to rotate to play goalie. As we got older I was one of the few that gravitated more to that position. 6 years later with thousands of dollars spend on equipment, team fees, and training I am lucky to have found a sport as great as hockey.
Softball
Aside from hockey another one of my most enjoyed out of school activities would be softball. I have been playing ball since I was 4 years old and I have loved every moment of it. Between the thrill of hitting the ball perfectly to getting the double play to win the gold medal game, it still gives me goosebumps to this day.
