Creative Thinking Reflection:

I believe that I was able to show creative thinking, throughout the process of building my invention. I demonstrated that I can build and create new things on other people’s ideas, by searching up all the inventions related to glasses and prototypes, such as the Google Glass. I added improvements here and there, by adding a Siri button just like the one on a regular iPhone. I established/designed my own ideas as well by making the glasses waterproof, so it will be less likely to get damaged. I’m extremely passionate about drawing and designing things, so being detail-oriented has really helped me a lot throughout this whole inventing process. I deliberately learned and researched a lot about inventions pretty similar to mine, by searching up what I need to know on the internet. Using the same tips from my previous projects, I obviously avoided Wikipedia, self-published sources and tweets.

My peer and I used novelty and value by using different tools not many people use, to create this invention. We both developed a body of creative work in an area we were passionate about, by designing how our All-in-one Phone Sunglasses will look like once finished on paper. We used a drawing app on a device to make a digital form of our invention and turned it into artwork. If our ideas didn’t work, we changed what we were doing and tried to find new ways to make it work, such as thinking back to what phones had in general.  We looked for inspiration through images of all different kinds of devices and glasses, and once we thought of something great, we asked ourselves if this idea met the “Triple Bottom Line”. I had many ideas like the charging case and the zoom-in lens for example, that were new to my peer and boosted up the interesting/artistic side of our project. We both shared our thoughts on how to make our invention more appealing when we presented it to our classmates and teacher, by discussing and jotting down notes whenever we could.

Developing ideas within the constraints of a given form put me still quite on the edge because although my peer and I had many different thoughts of designing our invention and our creativity was overloaded, it took us both quite a long time to make up our minds on how to make our project look more appealing enough for people to buy. We kept switching colors, designs, brushes and fonts, as well as changing some of our very first ideas since it didn’t fit well into our concept. We couldn’t use our experiences with various steps from the past to direct our work, because we had a bit of trouble making some of our ideas work at once with given mandatory questions such as, “how is this product environmentally friendly?” or “Is the cost reliable/or fair enough?”. Since we weren’t able to build the skills we needed to make our ideas work in a short period of time, we tried our best and made attempts to eventually succeed and satisfy ourselves. We made our ideas work or changed what we were doing. I learned a lot about re-thinking what I was doing throughout the process of building our All-in-one Phone Sunglasses. I hope I can improve and work on these skills for my upcoming projects, because I’m sure it will somewhat help me reach academic success in the future.

  1. Hi Seojin,
    Your mark: C+
You have integrated media into your blog. Information clearly relates to a core competency. You include some good supporting details and/or examples of how you demonstrated the competency.
Reflection uses 3 paragraphs which do a good job of communicating. Your paragraphs use some of the language of the core competency to describe how you demonstrated the core competency and how you might apply it in the future. Please feel free to email me a link to your updated blog, if you make changes and want the page marked again. If you need help you can come, see me in room 213 at flex.

Reflection is very organized with at least 3 well-constructed paragraphs which do an excellent job of communicating your ideas. Your paragraphs use the language of the core competency to thoroughly describe how you addressed the core competency and some areas that need improvement when using the core competency.
