Science Core Competency reflection 

    Communication and overall 

 

In science 9, I learned how to collaborate and share new ideas with my group. Sharing ideas is sometimes hard to do with people you just met , but with my courage I’ve made great friends and awesome classmates to help and share ideas with. My ability to show my learning was hard at the beginning of the semester. But after a while I’ve become quite good at it. I have used many different online programs to help with my understanding of the projects and assignments in science. Such as youtube , google slides etc. At times it was difficult with all the assignments and projects assigned , but at other times I really enjoyed it and I was excited for next year in science 10. Sometimes digital projects can delete , malfunction or just not work at all and it’s really frustrating at times. But I got through it! My strengths are in Biology and earth sciences, they are two of my absolute favourite subjects in science and I really enjoyed them.  I could definitely improve myself in Chemistry and Physics because they weren’t my best subjects and I wish I tried harder in it but I did my best in it. I loved science very much and all the things I learned about during this semester. Even though it was really hard at times to understand the assignments I had Ms.Chan’s support and help during it.

English 9 paragraph reflection 

   Creative thinking & Overall – Amelie Coen

 

In English 9 I learned how to come up with interesting and new ideas for my projects and writes. I was able to create art pieces to show my understanding of the lessons I was learning during class since I am a very visual learner. Creating art during english helped me understand the lessons better! I generate ideas from asking my fellow peers on their ideas and opinions on the projects we were learning, that gave me a better view on generating ideas for this class. During class I would write down my goals for the new project of mine , whether I should focus on the writing point or the creativity point of it and that helped me very much.I found my strengths in creative writing and reading. After finishing animal farm it gave me a new look on life and that’s when I found my love for reading historical and realistic books. I could improve on creating poems for class, it’s hard to find rhyming of meaningful words that relate to the subject. I hope I can improve on it next year. I loved English because it is my favourite subject, having that mindset I worked hard in that subject. I loved all the subjects I learned from short stories to William Shakespeare! I am very excited for it next year.

Summery 

On May 17th Capt. Jenn Casey was killed in a fatal Snowbird crash in Kamloops, BC. The crash occurred when 2 snowbirds were flying out of an airport in Kamloops when suddenly the jets started to malfunction and one of the snowbirds went into a full nosedive as caught on camera by a local.   From that point two people ejected from the Snowbird before the plane crash into a house. A male who has not been identified ejected just in time and landed in a near by field with only a few injuries and is now stable in a hospital. Capt. Jenn Casey sadly did not make it in the crash and right now we still don’t know exactly how she died. Capt. Jenn Casey was a kind and bubbly women who used to be a journalist and in radio until she joined the Royal Canadian Air Force where she found her love of Snowbirds. She was born and raised in Halifax but called BC her second home as she loved visiting Vancouver island and flying out of Comox Airport. Capt. Jenn Casey’s last mission was to fly across Canada in celebration of the bravery of the frontline workers working to help contain Covid-19. She visited every big city in each province before reaching Kamloops. The Royal Canadian air force gave a tribute to Jenn Casey on Monday , May 18th. 

Reflection

This story is very sad for all of us. It is one of those moments in life where while in the midst of a crisis with a deadly virus which everyone is worrying we receive this horrible and heart breaking news. When really thinking about it all that’s happened in these past months are just heartbreaking. Corona Virus, “world war 3” , Ukrainian jetliner crash in Iran , Australia’s fires , Kobe and Gianna Bryant’s death , killer hornets and now this horrible accident is just really draining and saddening. Considering all of what happened if this was just a normal day than it would be bad news but this we are all stuck quarantine and this is just a piece of sad news to make everyone feel more sad. This article is important to share because of how sad it is for someone who was trying to spread awareness and celebrate the frontline workers with flying across Canada and that story turning with a sad ending is just so depressing. This story is very important to share for the purpose of learning. 

Current Lab

   In this science project , I ran through different types of communication with my group  The first one being that my group and I connected and had different views on our hypothesis, some examples being we had different hypothesis and different questions viewing it which is normal for our group, when finally we decided on an hypothesis. Eleanor came up with a very good and detailed hypothesis for our project which our group agreed on.When doing the lab our group came up with a goal, to do the lab without going through any issues , but of course not all science labs go through smoothly of course. We went through a problem with the wires not connecting to the 4th light bulb during our parallel circuit.  It was a easy fix and we didn’t go through any bad bulbs or dead battery packs so we almost met our goal. I listened to all of my group members opinions and thoughts with an open mindset. I was happy with my group members because they were hardworking and respectful .   I can represent my learning by explaining my ideas and making points , for example we all took turns gong through the lab.  It connects with my experiences in other group projects in middle school with other subjects such as science.In conclusion , this went  project smoothly. My group was great and we all had the same mindset.What we did : created our hypothesis then created a diagram plan with what we were going to do for our lab, then got our supplies and started the lab. I took photos and Eleanor, Pausha and Adam created the diagrams. After that we cleaned up our supplies  and started our sway presentation and put all the data in.  It was pretty easy with this lab the only thing that was hard was the diagrams and the hypothesis . Things we could have done better : Not fool around on devices when needed to work on lab report and that’s the only bad thing that happened during this. Overall this Lab report was very fun and interesting , I’ve never done an professional lab report before and I am excited for the next few reports!

Extracurricular Paragraph

One of my favourite things to do in my spare time is Art , I have been doing art since I could remember, from scribbles to people. I was very creative when I was very young.One of my favourite memories of art was in grade one where we had an assignment to make an ordinary stick into an everyday object. I turned my stick into a paint brush and my teacher was so impressed that I earned a sticker ( now thinking about it , a sticker isn’t my greatest achievement in my life but as a 7 year old it was pretty special). After grade one I felt so inspired to create more art, when I found out my favourite types. I love cartooning , sketching , painting and watercolour! All of these types I love deeply and do almost everyday after school. I would love to make a job out of art one day and go to art school. Sometimes I realize that being an artist full time when Im older will not get me a good income.Thats why I want to become a graphic designer or animator when I grow up and create billboards or create a movie that will inspire little kids to do cool and great things! One of my favourite things to do on the weekends is go with my mom to the Vancouver art gallery, that’s what makes my mother and I’s relationship strong and great. I love artists from Leonardo de Vinci to Klimt. My favourite paintings is The girl with a pearl earring and the kiss. I actually saw the kiss in real life when I went to Vienna this summer. Art is my favourite way to express myself in many ways , it sort of gives me my confidence and how I dress and talk. Without art I don’t know what I’ll be doing right now in this very moment writing this paragraph.  Thats what art means to me. ( Thats me in the photo :0 )

Invention Project/ Refelction

When I started this project , I made and thought of new ideas , and thought very creatively. Some things I went through was starting my invention, creating how it works , looks and helps the environment. I went through a lot of creative block and writers block making the invention but then thankfully creating an invention that works for our planet. I am proud of my self for working through this project fluently and professionally. In these next two paragraphs I will talk about different statements in the core competencies under critical thinking. Here are some ways that I supported my ideas.

I can reflect and evaluate my thinking , products and actions during when I was creating the product , disposable shampoo packets for more context. On my thinking, I thought about how much plastic was being polluted into our oceans, and then I thought about how shampoo products were one of the most polluted types of plastic. I knew that need to change and that’s when I thought about a type of product, one that could be useful and environmentally friendly, that when I created a disposable packet for shampoo. The actions would help eliminate all plastic use for shampoo bottles. I hope that a person who is older will make this product so we can help eliminate plastic for good. When I was creating the project I was thinking critically about the product , the purpose and the idea. You can find my examples are in my proposal.

When creating my invention I thought about different designs of it , ways it works and how useful it would be. This is where I relate to “ I can experiment with different way of doing things “. It took me a while to create a good prototype with different designs and my invention , I could not just google it because it was my original idea. I evaluated and looked at how to use it , what the clear disposable packet was made out of , will it be safe for hair and skin, will it make income?. These questions are the ones I thought about the most when creating my invention. I monitored my reflection and proposal a lot so nothing would not make sense or I wouldn’t know how to answer some of the questions . I choice to work by myself so I could generate and make an invention I thought of and invented. I

n conclusion , I enjoyed the project very much and felt that I did well in this project. I am proud of myself for creating this invention from scratch.

Proposal

More than 552 million shampoo bottles are dumped in land fill every year in the united states. You could fill a football field every day til the day you perish. The worst part is that shampoo bottles are mainly consisted of plastic , and if you watch the news you notice that plastic is filling up in our oceans. So I decided to create a shampoo bottle consisted mainly in a packet. I have seen another Teenager create a biodegradable shaving cream packet which is amazing , But I wanted to instead create a shampoo packet because of all the shampoo bottles wasted each year.

The packet is clear and comes in two sizes , 5 oz and 12oz packets , the clear film is water soluble and disappears when you wash ur hair. The pods are for all hair types. The pods would come in a box to put in your shower or bath. Of course the box would be biodegradable  so It would not hurt the environment when recycled. Keep away from children because they could eat packet and that would be gross. Boxes would run for $5.00 for 25 packets  , $7.99 for 50 packets  $24.99 for 150 packets and $35.99 for 350. Each packet can be used for 14 to 24 weeks but it depends on the pack you purchased and your wash cycle. Affordable pricing to safe the planet 

10% of proceeds would be donated to Coral Reef Alliance which is a non profit organization to safe the coral reefs that are dying in the oceans. What a great cause.

When using it , all you need to do is take a packet into wet hair and scrub , right away the shampoo will start working , nothing else you need to follow just go about your normal shower or bath

My plans for post secondary always change , one day I want to be a veterinarian and the next I want to be a graphic designer. I never have my life organized and prepared which is very funny. I like the socializing of my mothers job but nothing really else. Overall it was a great experience seeing a working environment.
