Animal Farm Campaign Project

Here is the video and poster for our Animal Farm campaign project.

I showcased communication of ideas in our poster. We discussed our ideas and made sure they fit together, which they did, and we did not have any problems with each other. I came up with the slogan, “A clover for good luck” because Clover is the name of the horse, and one of good luck’s symbols is a four-leaf clover. To add to our slogan, we also put on four-leaf and three-leaf clovers. We designed our picture to represent that all the animals are equal.

Our video showed questioning, investigating, and generating ideas. We researched reasons why Clover should be voted and the other animals aren’t worthy. The notes taken are stated in the video with supporting quotes from the book. I helped generate ideas for how the animals should be presented. I drew the animals’ heads (it was an idea I thought of), and then Emily helped put them on popsicle sticks and take pictures of them. All of the photos were taken with a green background.

I could have managed my time better, even though I knew at least one of my group members was busy. I feel like I should’ve worked on the script on Thursday, when we were assigned, or Friday, although at the same time it might have been too much work for me.  The majority of the work we left to Monday, and the video we mostly worked on Tuesday and Wednesday. Anyways, we worked on it only slightly on the weekend, thus barely leaving enough time for the video.

Afrika Road Rap Project

For creative thinking, we generated the ideas for the lyrics, beat, and outfits. We based the lyrics based on the content of the short story, and the costumes were made to look like a road: black/grey clothes with yellow lines and road signs. The beat was also based on the story’s content, having a rather nasty and dark mood.

For critical thinking, we questioned and investigated the main points of the story, which then were used to help write our lyrics. We divided the song into three main parts. Each one of us individually wrote a rough draft of our parts, and then we all looked at each other’s drafts after we were done. Based on the feedback I edited my part so that it could be longer, and so did Emma.

And last but not least, for communication, we communicated what we wanted to do with the project, and actively listened to each others’ ideas. I asked Carmel and Emma if my ideas were okay with them, considering what they wanted. I also gradually developed my relationships with them through this project through feedback, and was able to reflect on my accomplishments after the rap was done.

What we could’ve improved on was performing in front of an audience we didn’t know. We were somewhat nervous, and I think we could have shown more emotion on stage. Emotion will probably help the audience engage with us more. As well, I feel we almost barely moved around, while the other groups moved around a lot.

What I Want to Learn in English 9

The first, and most important, thing I want to learn is new, challenging vocabulary. I’m interested in it, but fail to grasp definitions of new words. Also, sometimes my mom quizzes me on complicated words I don’t get and criticizes me for having limited English vocabulary.
The second thing I’d like to learn is how to improve my reading strategies. This includes inferring and reading comprehension. I think these will be very useful for assignments and tests.
Last, but not least, I want to improve on my writing, especially my proofreading skills. I feel sometimes when I write, small things pop up like punctuation errors that I didn’t notice beforehand. I need to make sure stuff similar to that happens less often.
In conclusion, I will restate my 3 goals for English 9: to improve vocabulary, proofreading, and reading strategies.
