Texting Story Reflection

James Tasker

To reflect on my texting story project, I would say I used Creative Thinking the most. Being creative was the main part of the story, because, without creativity, you would come up with a dry story that’s unrealistic. In my story, I demonstrated creativity in a simple but effective way. I demonstrated creative thinking when I was halfway through my texting story, and I decided to change up my idea, for a different plot that in my opinion, would get my point across. This shows that I generate new ideas as I pursue my interests. When I was starting to brainstorm ideas for a plot, I must have changed plots and the story at least 5 times until I had it right. As I ventured my mind and tried to come up with the best idea for me, this shows that I can get new ideas when I play around and have the right idea that makes me happy. During the brainstorming period of my texting story, I took inspiration from others and built on it. An example of this is when I saw a classmate making their story about two people planning about something. It looked like a pretty plain story to me, and I decided to jazz it up by making the two individuals try to play it cool when in reality, they wanted to go see each other really badly. Although it’s a simple change, I believe it has a big impact on the story and for the person reading my text story.

In my story, I know I showed that I can make my ideas work, and I can change what I’m doing to fit the situation. I showed that I could demonstrate this when I was halfway through my story and I changed it to improve my dialogue and the detail behind what I was trying to show. I would like to think of myself as a creative person and I know that in this project I did a good job of making my ideas work with what I was given. The outline for what I had to do in this project was clear. Construct and present a story via text, I think I used my class time wisely and I followed the criteria well enough to have a good story with detail. This shows that I can make my ideas work when given constraints. When going through the planning of my texting story I used my experience with creating a plan to my advantage. When I first got the instructions for the project, I made a simple plan for how I was going to construct my story so that it was handed in on time. In my mind, I started to plan out a process for how I was going to complete and I based everything off previous projects and work. This shows how during the texting story, I displayed that I’m able to use my past experiences, to improve my work.

During this project, there were a lot of mistakes I made, and there were plenty of areas for me to improve in. One of those areas would be my ability to strategize and find alternatives to help me brainstorm ideas. During this project, I was stuck without ideas and I didn’t have a strategy that helped me think and achieve my goal. An example of something I could do to help would be taking a quick walk around the class to clear my mind, or maybe asking my peers questions that could spark an idea for the story. Although I’m usually pretty calm when I have to quickly come up with a plan, I didn’t do that this project, and using the methods I just mentioned could have helped me a lot. Another thing I could improve on is my ability to collect related research on a topic. For example, an important step I didn’t follow was learning all the features of the app I was using to create the story, I think that if I took some time to get to understand the app and all its features, it would have benefited my story. Doing this for even just 5 minutes would have helped me a lot and its something that I should be doing on every project. As a very straightforward person, when I plan out projects I do it step by step and create a list for myself, this time when I ran out of ideas, there was no alternative for me to use. I ended up panicking and having to quickly come up with a story. To avoid all this panic, I need to learn how to use my senses more and be more creative to further develop my ideas and plans. These are just a few of the things that I can work on, I know that in order to get the best grades and be the best at whatever I do, I have o keep working and developing good habits.

In this picture I want the person seeing it to understand what’s happening in the scene without reading the quote to go with it. In the photo you can see Shylock (On the right) asking for Antonio’s pound of flesh that they created a bond for. On the left we see Antonio who is thinking about the sunken boat which is the general topic of the scene and the reason that Shylock collected his bond. Our group wanted to do a good job showing differences in physical features between Shylock and Antonio, for example having the cane for Shylock and having an arched over back. A core competency I could relate the photo to is creative thinking because we had to show creatively how to express what Shylock and Antonio were thinking while expressing it in a photo. Another way we expressed creative thinking was when we showed the age difference in Antonio and shylock, and the props we used to show that, for example the cane for Shylock.

In the second picture I want the person seeing this to show how we portrayed the relationship between Portia and Bassanio. We wanted to emphasize the love between them and the bond that they have with the rings. The heart between them shows the love they have for each other. Some other things I want you to notice about this photo are the props that we used in the photo. I want the person seeing this to recognize how we put the Mustache on Bassanio to make it look more realistic, and the tiara on Portia to show her royal descent. The purpose of this scene and picture was how Bassanio and Portia were making a big deal out of them just getting married. A core competency I can relate this to is Communication. As a group we put a lot of effort into designing the photo and putting all of our ideas in to it so that Yale could edit the photo. As group that’s something were proud of and that worked well for us.

In this photo we want the person seeing it to understand not only what was happening in the scene but the emotion behind it and what we were trying to express with the character. We tried to show the sense of accomplishment between Portia and Nerissa that they managed to dress up and sneak into the courtroom with such success. We did a lot more editing on this project and some things that I would like to point out about that would be how we put the hats on them, and the mustache and corresponding beard colour. We also did made it look more realistic by putting fake beards on Katilina and Apalini. By them tying their hair and making it look like a beard. A core competency that I can relate to for this picture would be creative thinking, because myself and my group all had to think creatively to demonstrate and show how Portia and Nerissa were feeling after getting in to the court. We also had to show how they dressed up as men and make it look as realistic as possible. We also had to be creative in choosing our background and our props so we can show a better understanding to what the surrounding look like in this scene.
