Soccer

The picture above is one of me playing soccer for my club team Coquitlam Metro Ford, in this picture, my team and I was playing in a Cup quarter-final against our rival team. Moments before this photo was taken, we had just scored the goal to put us up 2-0. It’s for moments like this that I love to play the game. All the running, hard work and dedication pays off for those few seconds of pure joy after you score an important goal. I first started playing soccer when I was 3 years old, and I haven’t stopped kicking the ball since. And I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. I also play for the Heritage Woods soccer school team. It was for the school team that so far I’ve played around 8 or 9 games for, and hope to continue to play for until I graduate in my Senior year.

Soccer is very important to not only my daily routine but to my lifestyle as a whole. Whether it be going to the field to practice, or taking on the 5-6 soccer-related activity’s a week. Soccer is everywhere in my life, and I couldn’t ask for anything more. What it means to me to kick a ball around a field is so much more than that. Every time I step out onto the pitch it gives me a feeling of excitement and anticipation to what the next 90 minutes will turn out to be. I say this honestly when I say that without soccer in my life, I would be a totally different person, soccer has kept me in shape, opened up so many more doors in my life, and given me a sense of community and friendship with not only my teammates but other players and coaches in general.

The picture above is a screenshot of a video I took when I was in Liverpool in the UK during the summer. Supporting my favourite team from Canada isn’t always easy because of the inability to go to the games, so when I had the opportunity on summer break, I took it and my Dad, Brother, and myself went to watch Liverpool vs Arsenal on the 24th of August, 2019. Although it wasn’t my first time going, it was an experience of a lifetime and just another reason how soccer brings people together. 54,070 people, all wearing the same colours, singing the same songs, and cheering for the same side. No matter race, gender or sexuality, a group of people all got together rooting for the same team, this really goes to show not only the power of soccer but the power of sports and how must of the time, it brings out the best in everybody.

I’ve been involved with the sport ever since as previously said, I was three. From then I’ve played every spring, fall and even sometimes summer season, and plan to continue to do the same until I’m 18. Another goal for myself to get out of soccer is at least a partial scholarship, I have my plans to go to University, and if I can achieve not only getting my degree but playing the sport I love at that high of a competitive level. That would be fantastic and a goal that I think if I work hard enough, I can achieve.
